Update on the previously communicated incident that occurred at Wayne Makin Shearer Sports Complex (Field 1) on Thursday, September 8, 2016.
On September 12, 2016, the Norco JAAF Board of Directors met with officials from the city of Norco and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in an effort to gain as much information as possible regarding the incident.
Because this is an open and continuing sheriff’s department investigation, we have very little information to pass along at this time. However, as of our meeting with the sheriff’s department and the city of Norco, sheriff’s department officials believe this is an isolated incident with no evidence suggesting otherwise. In response to this information, the Norco JAAF Board of Directors and the City of Norco have agreed to continue moving forward with practices in the normal location.
During the course of the investigation, the sheriff’s department has proactively increased the patrols in and around the sports complex. Be assured that Norco JAAF, the City of Norco, and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department remain steadfast in protecting the safety and security of all the patrons at this facility. Your child’s safety is of the utmost importance. We will continue to provide further updates when additional information becomes available.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tim Jackson, Norco JAAF President or Brady Thomas, Norco JAAF Vice President. Also available for questions is Brian Petree, Deputy City Manager or Michelle Anglin, Recreation Community Services Superintendent. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have additional information are encouraged to call the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at (951) 776-1099.
